Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre accredited for a 7-year term

2022-06-13

On 29 March 2022, the Director of SKVC signed an order to accredit the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (Lietuvos muzikos ir teatro akademija – LMTA) for a 7-year term.

The external review of the LMTA has been carried out since September 2021, when the higher education institution submitted a self-assessment report to the SKVC. A remote visit of an international expert team to the HEI was organised on 7-9th of December 2021.

The experts evaluated the performance of the higher education institution positively.

Three of the four review areas were rated as very good. The areas of Management, Quality Assurance and Studies and Research (Art) are very good in the national context and in the internationally, without any drawbacks.

The Expert Panel found that all the assessed areas of Management at the LMTA are functioning smoothly and that the LMTA management is fully competent to fulfil its mission and strategy. Areas for improvement are human resources, with particular attention to the recruitment and career path strategy for younger academic staff and the implementation plan for internationalisation.

The enthusiasm of the LMTA staff and students for their studies and the artistic research in which they are involved was clearly evident during the visit of the expert group. Teaching and artistic research are not disconnected from each other, and students are involved in projects at all levels, including artistic research schemes. In this area, the experts recommend that the LMTA revise its strategy for research in the arts so that artistic research becomes a recognised scientific activity. The reformulation of the arts research strategy should demonstrate the impact and value of arts research to government and other social stakeholders.

The impact on regional and national development is assessed as good. This is an area that is being developed systematically, with no major shortcomings. The LMTA is active throughout the country thanks to its artistic performances. It also maintains active relations with social partners in all areas of artistic performance. The LMTA has developed a reference document to focus its activities on the strategic priority of "culture of infiltration", and the monitoring of activities. An aspect in which the LMTA could improve is the dissemination of the activities of the Higher Education Institution not only in major cities and not only through artistic performances but also, for example, through lifelong learning offers.
